Meet Our Regional Board
Scott Kamen, President
Scott Kamen is thrilled to serve as the 2016-2017 NFTY NY Area Regional President. Prior to being elected President, Scott served as the Strategic Planning Chair of NFTY-NAR. He is a senior at Metropolitan Expeditionary in Forest Hills, NY. When he is not showing off his NFTY pride, you can find him acting, competing in Speech and Debate, or watching a crime drama. He is super excited for the year ahead! Scott is a proud alum of the URJ Kutz Camp.
Max Heller, Programming Vice President
Max Heller hails from the wonderful town of New Rochelle, home of TIFTY. In his senior year of high school, Max loves taking part in all of the theatre opportunities his school has to offer. In his free time, he enjoys playing his bass guitar, eating pizza, and taking long walks on the beach. Being the enthusiastic character that he is, Max is excited to serve as the NFTY-NAR Programming Vice President for this year.
Sam Pekats, Religious & Cultural Vice President
Sam Pekats has been a TIFTY board member for two years, serving this year as RCVP, and has also held severalpositions on NAR cabinet. This past summer, he was a fellow at the URJ Kutz Leadership Camp. He loves being a Reform Jew, and from a young age, his grandfather, being a survivor of Auschwitz, has impacted his Jewish learning journey. Sam is excited to share and spread his enthusiasm towards our religion and culture as the NFTY-NAR RCVP!
Madeline Mardiks, Social Action Vice President
Hi! My name is Madeline Mardiks and I am honored to be the NFTY New York Area Social Action Vice President for this year. I am currently serving as the President of my youth group, BHGSY. I am a senior at The Institute for Collaborative Education in Manhattan. I was born and raised in the great borough of Brooklyn. Besides NFTY, You can find me playing clarinet, baking, and participating in and organizing various social action projects.
Erica Gimpel, Membership Vice President
Erica Gimpel is a senior at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, New York. Prior to becoming the NY Area Region's Membership VP, Erica served on NFTY New York’s cabinet as New Members Chair and on her Temple Youth Group’s board as a Co-President. When she is not reminiscing on all things NFTY, Erica can be found at her local SoulCycle studio, watching netflix, or hanging with friends. She enjoys working at her temple, babysitting, making new friends, and strengthening the NFTY community.
Rachel Kalter, Communications Vice President
Rachel Kalter has grown up in the humble town of Pound Ridge, NY. She’s currently a senior at Fox Lane High School where she is very involved with The Anti-Defamation League. She spends her summers up in Cold Spring at Surprise Lake Camp. When Rachel’s not socializing with NFTY friends, you can find her painting or watching an episode of Switched at Birth. She has previously served as MVP, and currently serves as CVP of her temple youth group, JiFTY, and is honored to serve as the regional Communications Vice President.
Samantha Schnall, Long Island Director of Sub-Regional Events
I am Samantha Schnall and I am excited to be serving as the Long Island Director of Sub-Regional Events for this year. I have been active in NFTY since 8th grade, becoming more involved each year. I have been on the BNTY Board for 3 years and have volunteered as a student aide at Temple for five years. In school I serve on Student Council, participate in the academic and music honor societies and am a violist in chamber orchestra.
Zak Armine-Klein, New York City Director of Sub-Regional Events
Hello, My name is Zachary Armine-Klein, I am a Junior at Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn. I absolutely love theater and very often stage manage shows, with a little acting on the side. The one and only sport I'm even half decent at is fencing and my favorite color is well...all of them. I'm stoked to spend this year serving on the Board of Directors as your NYC Director of Sub-Regional Events!
Alice Auerbacher, Westchester/ Fairfield Director of Sub-Regional Events
Alice Auerbacher resides in the beautiful town of Scarsdale. She is the former Membership Vice President for her youth group, KATY, and a senior at Scarsdale High School. Alice is a varsity and club volleyball player with a passion for French. When not participating in something NFTY-related, Alice can be found on the volleyball court, at the gym, or hanging with friends.
NFTY New York Area is governed by a board of eight teen leaders who are elected by their peers that serve a one-year term. Regional board members play a critical role in all aspects of running the region including event planning and marketing, and mentoring teen leaders from our local youth communities. The regional board is mentored by a full-time Regional Director of Youth Engagement who oversees all programmatic and administrative aspects of the region.
